Landscape Design and Installation

The design process always begins by meeting you at your property to discuss your needs and to analyze the site. You may have an overgrown landscape or no landscape at all. We like to evaluate older landscapes and determine if any existing plant material is of use and incorporate it into a fresh design. Mature trees, for instance, may be of value to a landscape or a hazard, due to poor health or maybe a non-desirable species. As trained Arborists, we can recommend the best approach. We feel as designers and as trained Horticulturalists, it is important to listen to your thoughts and needs before recommending our ideas.

Site Preparation

All plants root system’s need oxygen as much as they need water and nutrients. That is why soil preparation is such a key element in the initial landscape design phase. Soil Compaction can be created from years of foot traffic and mowing or from original construction or an addition to an existing house. We evaluate the extent of compaction and recommend alleviating it to recreate soil structure. We will then bring in organic matter and combine this into the existing soils. The site is then graded and ready for plant installation. We have seen impressive growth on a one year old installation when utilizing these bed preparation tactics.

Soil conditions, site grade & conditions are important factors to consider before any plant material is selected and installed. With ammended soil conditions, appropriate plant material will thrive and establish much faster than if they were in poor soils. This will provide more instant aesthetic values as well as strong, healthy plants which makes them less prone to disease and pest problems.

Plant Material

Plant selection is based on the site conditions as well as the landscape's desired uses and client preferences. All trees and shrubs are hand selected from quality, local nurseries. The majority of our plant material is field dug to order for each project. This ensures top quality and healthy plant material. We take pride in locating specimen and rare sized plant material. Cotswold Gardens, Inc. also grows a selection of specimen trees in our own nursery.

Installation

A trained and experienced Horticulturalist is present on every project. As we are a 'hands on' company, usually the designer will be on the project from start to finish. All plant material is handled with great care from the nursery to the planting site and all plants are installed to the highest horticultural specifications.

Maintenance

We offer maintenance plans for the gardens which we install so that they become what we originally envisioned. Maintenance involves monitoring the property for the following issues: General Plant Health, weed control, defining bed edges, fertilization, watering, pruning and mulching. We also offer seasonal displays in containers or throughout a landscape bed.
